Things to do in St. Lucia during January

St. Lucia is a popular tourist destination located in the southeast Caribbean. Thanks to its beautiful scenery and laid-back atmosphere, it is an ideal place to relax and escape from the daily grind. The island is best known for its all-inclusive resorts and gorgeous beaches, and there are countless places to choose from, including villas and boutique hotels, to personalize your trip.

See the Pitons

Saint Lucia is famous for its two mountainous peaks, the Gros and Petit Pitons, on the island’s southwest coast. These natural formations were formed by two active volcanic mountains thousands of years ago. Today, the island is renowned for its breathtaking views and fantastic hiking trails, which provide adventure seekers with an unforgettable experience. The only way to enjoy the panoramic view of the island from a mountain peak is to embark on a hiking adventure. Once you reach the top, you will realize it was well worth the effort.

Pigeon Island National Park

One of St. Lucia’s most significant historical monuments is Pigeon Island, located at the northern tip of the island. Amerindians first inhabited this island, but pirates later occupied it in the late 18th century. The island is full of historical sites and activities to explore, such as the ruins of Fort Rodney and nearby beaches. If you decide to go on a tour with a guide from the park, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in a pirate treasure hunt and win some fantastic prizes.

Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens

If you’re not fond of sandy beaches or the ocean, then the Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens might be your perfect tourist destination. Situated just outside Soufriere, this 6-acre attraction is a feast for the eyes with its vibrant greenery comprising hibiscus, ixora, heliconia, and more. The Diamond Falls waterfall is also a visual treat, changing colours throughout the year due to the mixture of rainwater and volcanic minerals cascading down the falls.

If you enjoy exploring the fascinating world of the deep blue seas, then St. Lucia is worth considering. This stunning island has many options for snorkelling and diving enthusiasts to satisfy their underwater cravings. You may even encounter amazing creatures inhabiting our waters, such as the frogfish. You can experience the beauty of the Anse Chastanet coral reef and its depths or challenge yourself by exploring the underwater cliffs of the Pitons.

Hiking and waterfalls

If you want to take a break from the beach and explore nature, hiking parts of St. Lucia can be an enriching experience. One of the most popular hiking trails in St. Lucia is the Tet Paul Nature Trail, which offers breathtaking views of the island. The trail takes about 45 minutes to complete and winds through the tropical forests of the Pitons Management Area. Along the way, you’ll get to see and learn about the different plants and trees, including various tropical fruit trees. Eventually, you’ll reach the “Stairway to Heaven,” a steep set of steps that leads to an awe-inspiring view of the countryside. Please note that there is a small fee to enter this park.

If you’re visiting Soufriere, you may also want to check out the scenic hike to Sapphire Falls. This gorgeous waterfall is nestled in the narrow surroundings of the rainforest and is a must-see for nature lovers. Remember that hiking trails up the Pitons are also available but can be challenging for inexperienced hikers.
